Fieldwork Without a Field

Some sites survive only as coordinates on a map. I’ve begun to think of these places as negative spaces—fields of possibility shaped by what used to be there. Research becomes an act of listening for echoes rather than collecting evidence. Absence, too, has its own archaeology.
